Photovoltaic system supplier TRITEC UK has launched a hand-held 'characteristic curve' monitoring device which makes it easier to check that solar PV systems are achieving maximum yields.
Simple-to-use, TRI-KA fits perfectly into the palm of the hand and weighs just 500g. By way of the LCD colour touchscreen, the user can measure the actual output of a photovoltaic system and compare it to the expected output under Standard Test Conditions (the STC ideal curve analysis).
TRI-KA can be used both as a commissioning tool and as a PV array trouble-shooter. With even minor system faults costing hundreds of pounds in yield losses, it’s important for any problems with a PV system to be detected and remedied quickly.
Replacing old multi-meters and clip-on ammeters, the highly-intuitive TRI-KA device makes monitoring the PV system during installation and maintenance much simpler. Wireless connection between the measuring device and the sensor speeds up the job and removes the need for expensive wiring.
TRI-KA has a large input range for current (0.1 to 15 A) and voltage (1 to 1000 V), which means that both individual modules and entire strings can be measured. It uses the irradiation sensor, TRI-SEN, which has two reference cells (mono- and poly-crystalline), so it can measure irradiation with complete precision, producing highly-accurate results.
Backwards compatibility
The accompanying software means that only the individual measurements need to be performed at the system — the rest of the monitoring can be done in an office, where the software allows the user to map the system structure with all inverters and strings. TRI-KA software can be navigated step-by-step, requiring only basic prior knowledge — and it is backwards-compatible, so that older measurements can still be read by the program. During installations,
TRI-KA software makes it possible prepare the entire system architecture at the office, before testing the system in the field. Currently, TRI-KA offers more than 5000 performance (STC) curves. These are sourced from a wide range of manufacturers, and the software can be updated regularly with the newest data.
Steve Griffiths, Sales and Marketing Director at TRITEC UK, said: “The launch of TRI-KA is significant, because there is simply nothing like it on the market. TRI-KA provides a way to differentiate from competitors and offer the most comprehensive service possible. Its level of technical innovation means that TRI-KA is geared towards savvy installers with an eye for the future market.”
