Drives specialist Danfoss has introduced the VLT MCD 500 Soft Starter, a complete, efficient motor starting solution with advanced start, stop and protection features, Adaptive Acceleration Control (AAC), built-in delta connections, a four-line graphical display and multiple programming setup menus.
In use, the MCD 500 constantly monitors the behaviour of its load to adjust and refine its dynamic performance. Its AAC function automatically selects and adjusts the best starting and stopping profile for the application, measuring motor current and providing feedback for constant improvement of the motor ramp profiles.
A four-line graphical display and a logic keypad make programming easy, but a more advanced setup is also possible, displaying full operational status. Three menu systems provide the optimum programming approach: Quick Menu, Application Setup and Main Menu.
The MCD 500 covers the range 21 to 1600A. (7.5 to 800kW), and offers versions for the voltage range 200 to 690VAC. This power range can be extended to 1.2MW when using the internal delta connection. A series of options is offered for serial communication — DeviceNet, Profibus, Modbus RTU and USB.
