Boiler control company Sabien Technology has been awarded a contract valued at over £250,000 to supply its M2G intelligent boiler load optimiser to 45 buildings operated by Greenwich Borough Council. The order is to install M2G in 45 buildings — including primary schools, secondary schools, council offices and town halls — and was won following a published tender for boiler load optimisation.
Greenwich Borough Council is one of the founding ten local authorities to sign up to the 10:10 campaign, which means that they are aiming to reduce their own emissions by ten per cent by the end of 2010.
Alan O'Brien, Chief Executive Officer for Sabien said: "Greenwich Borough Council is a key client for Sabien, and I am delighted to be supporting their commitment to meet the challenge of delivering on the 10:10 campaign carbon reduction targets. This is the first significant order Sabien has received from a local authority and provides a good indication of the future value our existing relationships with local authorities can deliver."
M2G intelligent boiler load optimisation is able to differentiate between a genuine need for heating in a building and a call for the boiler to fire simply to compensate for standing heat losses from the boiler itself — a phenomenon known as ‘dry cycling’. Dry cycling, says Sabien, can be a consequence of the boilers being oversized and occurs most often during relatively mild weather when boilers are operating under light conditions, resulting in the boilers frequently switching on and off, therefore wasting energy.
