Leading German wind energy developer PNE Wind is to invest £500m in UK wind power projects. Over the next three years, through its London-based venture PNE Wind UK, the company is looking to develop its portfolio of wind farm projects across Scotland, England and Wales with the capacity to provide more than 300MW of sustainable energy.
This move into the UK renewables sector is the latest venture for parent company PNE Wind AG, which has been planning and implementing onshore and offshore wind farms across Germany, Hungary, Bulgaria, Turkey, Romania, the USA and Canada since 1995. A second UK base, in Scotland, is planned before the end of this year.
Head of the UK operation, director George Mager, said: “This is a key strategic and logical progression for the company. PNE Wind AG is increasingly investing in dynamic growth markets and the UK is a key market with investment growth forecast to reach £200billion in the industry over the next decade.
"Already operational in eight countries worldwide, PNE Wind AG’s core competence lies in the development, project planning, realisation and financing of wind farms together with their operation. PNE Wind has built a reputation for being a responsible, environmentally-aware company which works closely and sympathetically with landowners and local communities."
