BSI’s inaugural Bioenergy Conference and Workshop, to be held in the CBI Conference Centre, London, on May 18-19 will set out to provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of bioenergy production and development in the UK.

With the main purpose of the conference to dispel some of the confusion surrounding domestic and EU legislation, James Berry, Principal Producer at BSI Conferences, says: "Many companies and individuals appear to be confused by increasing amounts of regulation and frustrated by a lack of guidance around how to interpret and comply with these new requirements. Hearing information direct from the regulators and those already in the know should help to resolve some of these issues."

Through discussion sessions and case studies, delegates will get the very latest information on the Renewable Energy Directive and UK Renewable Energy Strategy, and how these are likely to affect bioenergy producers. Other topics of discussion will be the Government’s view; funding and incentives available to grow the bioenergy market; benefits of standardization; and case studies on the effective production and use of biomass and biofuels.

Speakers include Aaron Berry of the Renewable Fuels Agency, Dr Geoff Hogan of the BIOMASS Energy Centre, Bill Massey of the solid fuel heating organisation HETAS, Caroline Season of the Department of Energy & Climate Change; and Dr Patricia Thornley of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research, University of Manchester. In addition, Karen Fisher, Michael Collins and Simon Aumônier of Environmental Resources Management (ERM) will deliver a post-conference workshop on Wednesday, May 19. Those attending the workshop will learn how to apply carbon footprinting and carbon labelling methodologies to bioenergy products and projects, as well as how to communicate carbon footprint information.
