Building management specialist Environmental Design Solutions has launched its EDSL/Tas Academy with a one-day technical seminar for managers and engineers tasked with assessing the CO2 emissions of buildings.

A key factor of EDSL's Tas software is its ability to incorporate manufacturers' measured data for components in the mechanical services: two examples featuerd in this initial seminar were EX/VAV fan coils from TROX and natural ventilation from Passivent.

Dr Alan Jones, Head of EDSL Academy, said that there had been significant progress made in programmes for dynamic simulation modelling and that it was important that progressive consultants, architects and contractors were fully briefed on these innovations.

A complete overview of the buildings emissions and the availability of extensive modelling were highlighted to a group of top designers which included AECOM, Arup, Cundall, John Noad, Land Securities, Long & Partners, Hilson Moran, Hoare Lea, MG Partnership, Roger Preston, Waterman Group, and WSP. Topics included CAD import, future climate data, simulation procedures in design, load calculations, natural ventilation/mixed mode, daylight simulation, renewables, plant controls and simulation.

Specific training programmes are freely available either as an in-house activity which can be tailored to the requirements of individual companies, or as a group meeting, either at Milton Keynes or other locations shown in the EDSL/Tas roadshow programme.
