BSI is to hold a series of specialist masterclasses aimed at helping businesses benefit from implementation of new European standards for building design and construction. Structural Eurocodes will replace their corresponding British Standards early next year.

Structural Eurocodes are a new set of harmonised European standards for the design of buildings and civil engineering structures. They are scheduled to replace the existing British Standards on 31 March 2010, when full implementation of the Eurocodes will take place across the EU.

Although over 30 per cent of firms within the UK construction sector have already adopted Eurocodes, says BSI, there is a clear industry need for practical guidance on how to implement the new standards effectively.

Building on the success of BSI’s inaugural Preparing for the Eurocodes conference in Octobe), the Eurocodes Masterclasses will demonstrate how to manage the transition from British Standards to Eurocodes. There will be a particular emphasis on the cost and time commitments involved, says BSI. Through case studies and discussion groups with industry experts, attendees will gain a thorough knowledge and understanding of the Eurocodes most relevant to them.

Eurocodes Masterclasses will be held over the course of four days, in both London (1 - 4 February) and Manchester (9 - 12 March), with each class dedicated to a specific Eurocode. Further information and booking details are available at www.bsigroup.com/eurocodesmasterclasses
