In conjunction with the publication of the new energy management standard BS EN 16001, BSI is holding its second annual conference on efficient energy management in London on 30th September and 1st October.

Known as 'BS EN 16001 Energy management systems — Requirements with guidance for use', the new standard specifies requirements for an energy management system that enables an organisation to take a systematic approach to the continual improvement of energy performance. It aims to help organisations establish the systems and processes necessary to improve energy efficiency, leading to reductions in cost and greenhouse gas emissions.

In a business world increasingly focused on sustainability, organisations are constantly urged to assess their energy management strategy, says BSI. Tougher legislation and greater public demand for environmental accountability means that reducing energy consumption is a key priority.

This conference will deliver a detailed briefing on the new energy standard, including updates from the pilot organisations who are trialling the draft version. Delegates will benefit from guidance on implementing, operating and auditing the system in real-life operating environments, and learn how the new standard works with BS EN ISO 14001 and other management systems.

A post-conference workshop offers a practical introduction to implementing BS EN 16001. Delegates to the conference will also have the chance to take part in discussion sessions where they can get expert opinion on the new standard and on meeting Government targets and initiatives.
