BSI is to launch the new European standard on energy management into the UK. The new standard — EN 16001 — sets out the requirements for a system which will enable all organisations to improve continually their energy efficiency, potentially cutting costs, and to be independently certified to this effect.
BSI will launch the standard at its Energy Management conference in September. A pilot scheme with UK organizations, designed to test EN 16001 ahead of publication, is due to start next month. BSI is currently developing publications and web-based services supporting implementation of BS EN 16001 (the UK-adopted standard).
