A one-day seminar to examine ways of reducing spend on fuel and running costs in commercial vehicles and fleets -- and cut CO2 emissions -- is being held at the Pera Innovation Park, Melton Mowbray on March 17th. Organised by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, the Commercial Vehicles 2009 seminar will include presentations from leading manufacturers, fleet operators and industry experts, and provide a comprehensive guide to the latest developments and techniques in fleet fuel efficiency.

With fuel consumption contributing 25 to 45 per cent of total vehicle operating costs, maximising fuel efficiency is vital, says IMechE. Additionally, for every 1000 litres of diesel used, 2.6 tonnes of CO2 is released, raising environmental concerns and resulting in legislation.

Delegates can learn to obtain and utilise fuel consumption data to cut costs, analyse the role of driver behaviour in fuel consumption, discuss the extent to which telematics can assist in reducing running costs and back-office expense, and debate the impact of vehicle specification on running costs. There will also be discussions on alternative fuel developments and ways of making fleets more aerodynamic.

An impressive line up of speakers includes John Boocock, Training Director of Fleet Master Operational Support Services, Chris Evans, Sector and Business Solution Sales Manager of Volvo Trucks, Jon York, the Fleet Operations Manager of British Gas, and Will Murray, Research Director of Interactive Driving Sysems.

Attendance can be booked at the IMechE website. Information about exhibiting or sponsorship is available at sponsorship@imeche.org or by contacting Aman Duggal on 020 7973 1309.
