Building controls specialist BG Controls has installed a Building Management System in the recently completed leisure centre at Catterick Garrison, the UK’s largest army base
Based in North Yorkshire, this £21m leisure centre is open to military personnel as well as the local community. Facilities inside the development include a 25m six-lane competition pool, a training pool, a teaching pool and a six-court sports hall for five-a-side football, basketball, volleyball, netball and badminton, which also has cricket nets and trampolines.
There is also a library and a Regional Rehabilitation Unit with specialist equipment to help military personnel recover from injuries or wounds sustained in combat or while training.
BG Controls has designed, installed and commissioned a sophisticated BMS to control the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning within the 170,000sq.ft building. Its engineers installed Trend IQ3 controllers in conjunction with customised control panels that were manufactured by its own in-house workshop.
Networked via a Trend front-end, the system provides comfortable training conditions by circulating fresh air throughout the building. It is also used to control underfloor heating in the gym and conventional heating within the development.
“BG Controls completed the installation swiftly and to a high standard. It has provided the leisure centre with a modern building management system that fits the needs of the building and its occupants,” says Garrison Energy Manager Ray Cook. “The advanced but easy-to-use graphics provide complete visibility over the site that we can use to constantly monitor and control every element of the system."
