Waterproof connectors fitted externally to a wind-powered generator are withstanding the harsh conditions of day-to-day outdoor use
TEETUBE connectors from Hylec-APL provide IP68 protection, allowing them to be fitted externally and survive in harsh conditions — a necessity for applications such as wind generators. Supplied with an installation kit, the TEETUBE is designed for hassle-free maintenance – and there is even a 'see-through' option, allowing connections to be examined without compromising protection.
This particular wind-powered generator application differs from the norm as the wind blows parallel to the rotor hub, taking advantage of the Venturi effect to power wind through the rotors as opposed to classic, sphere-shaped Darrieus turbines which operate adjacent to the wind.
Due to its design it is capable of generating energy from lower wind speeds — 2m/s is enough to create electricity, and can create up to 500kWh. The wind generator is ideally suited for installation using a free standing mast though it can also be roof mounted. Due to the nature of the product it will often be subjected to harsh environments, so it is essential that any components used are fully weatherproof.
The transparent option
Terry Spriggs of Hylec-APL said: “The TEETUBE connectors provide a weatherproof external connection which is quick and easy to install. In the unlikely event of a problem the transparent option means it is possible to inspect the connection without dismantling the tube and compromising its protection.”
TEETUBES are available with two and three-way cable entry options and provide up to six pole connections. They are offered in a range of sizes including the MINI-TEETUBE, so many cable types are accommodated up to a maximum diameter of 17mm. High-integrity TPE-V seals ensure the connectors' reliability, and both transparent and non-transparent options have a tough, polycarbonate body.
With their high IP rating, TEETUBES are said to suit most applications, including use where the product would be fully submersed up to 5m.
