Aiming to maintain its credentials as a leader in environmental practices, The Range Home Garden and Leisure has installed Breezair evaporative cooling in its new Swindon store

Home and garden products store keeps coolA 6500sq.m facility offering 65,000 products though 16 departments, the new Swindon store is one of 33 The Range home and garden department stores in the UK. And forming an integral part of the store’s energy saving features, the Breezair coolers consume up to 80 per cent less energy than a conventional air conditioning systems and contain no ozone depleting refrigerant gases.

CDS Superstores International, parent company of The Range, is dedicated to developing environmental working practices. Under the leadership of Chris Dawson, who started the business in 1989, the company has introduced a range of green policies at its Swindon store which include fully automated light sensitive controls, cardboard, plastic polystyrene and metal recycling streams and the installation of Breezair coolers.

Installed by Abercorn Heating & Cooling through the UK distributor for Breezair evaporative cooling, CoSaf Environments, four Breezair coolers have been installed on the roof of the building to provide cooling to the furniture and lighting departments located on the store’s mezzanine floor.

These coolers are providing a constant flow of cool, fresh air throughout the floor, dispelling the uncomfortably hot temperatures that would be caused from heat collecting in the area from people, lighting and the sun radiating through the windows. Instead, a solid-state programmable regulator maintains a comfortable temperature of around 21°C.

Weatherproof casing

Housed in a simple plastic casing specially developed to withstand all weather conditions, the Breezair system's components include a water distribution system which delivers continuous, balanced water coverage to all the pads. This world-patented system is said to ensure maximum cooling efficiency and minimal maintenance problems.

An aerodynamic fan provides a constant, even flow of air over the pads to provide a cool breeze with minimal noise and low energy consumption, while an efficient water pump gives constant and reliable cooling when most needed. A variable speed motor gives maximum comfort level control.

Owner of The Range, Chris Dawson, said: “The time has come for businesses, no matter what their size, to realise that we have an impact on the sustainability of the environment and that through simple initiatives we can all accept responsibility and contribute towards a bright future for both retailers and the communities in which our customers live”.
