A Breezair evaporative cooling system has provided an economical alternative to air conditioning for a Surrey fitness centre
When the directors of the newly opened Gold’s Gym in Camberley obtained quotes for installing air conditioning in the club they were stunned to be quoted £225,000 for the 1500sq.m facility. After researching alternative cooling options, they opted for a Breezair evaporative cooling system from distributor CoSaf Environments.
CoSaf was able to provide a costing for the design, supply and installation of a Breezair system that was 75 per cent below the air conditioning quotation. The system is also providing the club with 80 per cent savings on running costs — the only power-consuming components of direct evaporative cooling are the fan and small water pump.
“As well as being only a fraction of the cost to install and run, the Breezair system is also environmentally friendly, using no ozone depleting refrigerant gases," said Gold's Gym Director Nigel Snart. “We were really impressed with the number of awards won by Breezair and the fact that the air is changed ten times an hour, which means there are no odours in the gym or studios.”
Breezair's system provides a comfortable environment throughout every area of the club. As no air is recirculated around the building, the internal air quality is improved and germs and airborne contaminants are removed, making for a much healthier environment.
Easy temperature management
Four Breezair Icon coolers have been installed on the roof of the building. Stale air is removed through extractor fans and cool air distributed via a low-velocity FabricDuct. Cooling is controlled by an industrial wall controller, which enables Gold’s Gym to set and manage the temperature at the touch of a button. Air changes are carried out every few minutes, resulting in a steady flow of naturally cooled fresh air. Temperatures are now 5degC below ambient, providing staff and members with a healthy, cool environment.
Housed in a simple, clean, ultra-modern plastic casing specially developed to withstand all weather conditions, the Breezair system's components include a water distribution system which delivers continuous, balanced water coverage to all the heat exchanger pads. This world-patented system ensures maximum cooling efficiency and minimal maintenance problems.
An aerodynamic fan provides a constant, even flow of air over the pads to provide a cool breeze with minimal noise and low energy consumption. Other components include an efficient water pump that guarantees constant and reliable cooling when most needed, and a variable speed motor that gives maximum comfort level control.
